Here are a few web sites that we think are interesting. Some are from those who have helped or influenced us (in a good way) over the years - others are just there because we want to support their efforts.

Scottish/Celtic Associations

St. Andrew's Society of Maine - Hosts of the annual Maine Highland Games at Thomas Point Beach in Brunswick. Want to learn more about your Scottish Heritage and meet folks with a similar interest - this is the place to start!

New Hampshire Highland Games - known affectionately to many as simply "Loon Mountain". For many of us, this is considered to be a "must do" event. With a weekend of activities, crafts, concerts, workshops, clan tents, and competition at all levels, the NH Games bring it all together in one of the most scenic places in the northeastern US. Parking is always a challenge, but once you are there, it is well worth it.

Art

Nancy Fox Loomis is a piper with Rocky Bay who has a web site that showcases several of her original drawings. Nancy also designed the new Rocky Bay logo.

Photography

Pinchbeck Photo - Chris Pinchbeck is one of the most talented photographers in the Northeast. Check out a sample of his portfolio (and photo tips) at this web site.

Pipe Bands

Catamount Pipe Band - Iain MacHarg is the Pipe Major of Vermont's premier pipe band. Iain and others at Catamount have demonstrated their commitment to improving the quality of highland music by helping us on many occasions.

Podcasts

Just because we play old instruments doesn't mean we are disconnected from the 21st century. Besides, sometimes you just want to listen to good celtic music while traveling, but the way the seats are jammed together in the airplanes makes it hard to play the highland pipes with your seatbelt securely fastened and your tray table in its upright and locked position...

...besides, these are all free and are updated regularly with new material.

Celtic Instruments, Music, and Supplies

Song of the Sea - Maine's own Celtic Folk Music source. Anne and Edward Damm own this wonderful shop in downtown Bar Harbor. Open all year (not just during those crazy summer months when it seem like everybody goes to Bar Harbor).

The Wee Piper - Michael MacHarg's one-stop shop for just about every kind of bagpipe you could imagine. Located in Vermont, Michael is a master at pipe making and repairs. His son, Iain, is an open professional piper and the Pipe Major of the Catamount Pipe Band.

Tone Czar - Chris Hamilton has come to Maine and conducted workshops for Rocky Bay. He sells quality bagpipes and supplies and is always very helpful.

Schools and Other Web Sites of Interest

Andrew Lenz's Bagpipe Journey Here is some of the most helpful and interesting information about the bagpipes on the Internet today.

Bob Dunsire's Bagpipe Web Directory Here you'll find the most comprehensive and the largest list of bagpiping sites on the web. If it is related to bagpipes (of any type) you'll find a current link to it here. Several of us use this web site to exchange tips, tune suggestions, vendor links, etc. This is a great site - check it out!

Gaelic College of Celtic Arts and Crafts - Overlooking St. Ann's Bay on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. The Gaelic College offers a variety of programs for all ages and interests,

Invermark College of Piping and Drumming - Invermark now has more than 45 years of summer programs. From its inception, they have kept piobaireachd and individual piping as the primary focus of the curriculum. Small class sizes have been a priority for the teaching of individual piping skills. In recent years, they have widened the scope of the workshops to include areas critical to the success of pipe bands: snare, bass and tenor drumming, and the skills necessary for the Drum Major.
